  1. Without using an egg, the meatballs fall apart. This recipe is definately not ‘spicy’ as the title describes.

I will not be using this recipe again.

  2. an excellent recipe, dont puree the sauce, leave chunky as peter says, i added some finely chopped fresh chillis to the sauce and that spiced them up a bit!!

  3. I did purée the sauce and seasoned with salt black pepper and basil but I also added a spoonful of sugar . I also spiced up the meetballs with chillis and it was delicious .

  4. I always make my meatballs from scratch, similar to the above recipe using BOTH beef & pork mince.
I prefer to use tinned chopped tomatoes for the sauce, leaving it chunky and adding chillis, garlic, paprika & tabasco to both the meatballs & sauce,
    For the sauce
Fry finely chopped onion, garlic, chillis and paprika in a little oil, add a small piece of smoked end of bacon or similar for flavour.
Take care not to burn the garlic. Add a tin of chopped tomatoes, season with salt & pepper, add a pinch of sugar (brings out the flavour in any savoury dish) remove the bacon, add an oxo cube for extra flavour and colour, add tabasco sauce if you want more spicy. I like to serve with home made garlic bread, and a nice dressed side salad, followed by a selection of hams, and cheeses
I also use the sauce for spicy potatoes. Just boil potatoes, (cut into small chunks) when cooked, deep fry, drain on kitchen paper, serve in a warm bowl covered with the spicy sauce, and a little creme fraiche on top. Delicious served with home made garlic bread, and a nice glass of wine. Enjoy :)
