Really easy recipe and the pudding was lovely! It did take a bit longer to cook in my oven, about 1 hr 15 mins. Will make again!
I would put margerine/butter on both sides of the bread, gives the pudding a more solid consistency, more flavoursome. Plus, the use of raisins and sultana’s isn’t essential, nor are spices, it depends on taste. Plus, breaking the bread up can make i a bit more haphazard, therefore giving more variety.
very yummy pudding
All my family really enjoyed this recipe so have added to my favourites
mmm yummy
Although it took 10 minutes longer that it said, it turned out to be worth the wait!
Goes perfectly well with double cream or ice cream! Yum. All my family really enjoyed it. Will make again.
Thank you for all the people who made comments. I am going to cook this tonight for my boys and take all tips on board. I will let you know how it went. Thank you
I USE HALF EVAPORATED MILK,HALF A TUB OF CREAM,TO THE EGGS AND SUGAR,LEAVE THE WHOLE THING SOAK FOR ABOUT TWENTY MINS.
I then cook the whole thing, ban marie with a large roasting tin, half filled with hot water, the creamy texture is just so wonderful.ps. by the way make the milk mixture up to apint before adding the cream, just enjoy it.

Already made two bread and butter puddings so far, already made an impression on my girlfriend and my family with this recipe.
Now for my girlfriends parents to try my recipe.I lightly heat the milk and stir it as i pour in the sugar and the eggs. Plus used some vanilla and cinnamon for that nice custardy taste, mmm……
i use custard instead of milk makes it even nicer and tasty bread and custerd pudding
instead of fruit used choc chips, sprinkled over second layer of bread and used brown sugar, cut crust’s off bread first, grand kids loved it,

This has to be the best Bread and Butter pudding I have ever made!!………Great for using up bread that isn’t quite fresh enough for sandwiches anymore.also I only use sultanas in mine as raisins sometimes burn which taste nasty!!……ENJOY EVERYONE!!

what should you cover the baking dish with?x

Thanks for a fab. recipe. For a twist I crumbed the bread. It makes for a more cake-like consistency. Nice!
For the topping I also fried some of the bread crumbs, butter and sugar and sprinkled on top.
This made a lovely crispy topping when cooked.
I’m going to try this tomorrow. It’s a great antidote to all the pretentious cookery programmes on TV these days to have simple, down to earth recipes that real people really eat.
If I hear the phrase ” I’m passionate about food ” one more time on some phoney foodie TV show, I think I’ll burst with laughter.
what will happen if you dont use any eggs? and you dont you use 1 and a half pint of milk, you only use a little bit? will it still tastes nice? or will it kill me?
i made this pud just took out of oven it took just over an hour i sprinkled mixed spice on the top an it smells wicked..so cheap an easy to make thumbs up in our house…
I make b&b pudding with buttered crossants..yum yum…and with blocks of white chocolate dotted around, absolutly devine and not good for the wasteline!
OMG! My first attempt at this recipe, and it is fantastic. I also added to the milk etc, 2 tablespoons of instant custard powder, and I buttered both sides of the bread and removed the crusts. Just have to stop myself eating all 6 portions that it made!
made homemade mince &dumplings & to top it off b&b pudding tonight we will realy be stuffed pudding looks delicious can,t wait
Just put this in the oven, smelling good. I used nutmeg instead of cinnamon as I prefer it, I also substituted some of the milk with cream, hoping it turns out ok! FAO chelsea akkaya, if you didn’t use eggs in this it wouldn’t set, they make it something like egg custard, so you’d probably just end up with a sloppy mess. If you used less milk maybe it would be sloppy underneath & dry on top, I wouldn’t bother trying it personally!
REALLY EASY PREPARTION TIME WAS BOUT 20 MINUTES I FIND TO MUCH DETAIL IT GOES WRONG SMELLS GOOD AND LOOKS GOOD ILL LET YA KNOW HOW TASTY IT IS THANK YOU FOR THE RECIPE XX
I saw an episode of Pie in the Sky and they had taken marmalade, heated it to thin, sieved the peel out and spread the remainder thinly onto the buttered bread. They also sprinkled vanilla sugar over the top. Might be worth a try!
Gonna try this today, sounds wicked. Will post my verdict later!!!!!
just saw this recipe,( have already got beef n ale stew in oven, with mashed sweet potatoes/swede.yum yum! ) adapted this bread n butter pudding recipe , took a tip from several people on here, spread bread with marmalade, used half milk and half custard, and brown sugar, hope it turns out ok , my hub said he doesnt like it but hoping this will change his mind! thanks guys!
Made this recipe tonight, used Danish white loaf (much lighter texture) and soft brown sugar, no vanilla or salt, just lots of cinnamon, because we like it.Took off the tin foil towards the end of cooking to brown the top. Result fantastic, easily enough for 4 people, will certainly make it again…….also I only rested it for 10 mins!! before it went in the oven
